Tsukigase Kōcha Sayamamidori | Natural farming | 2023

月ヶ瀬 紅茶 さやまみどり

Spring-harvested wakōcha black tea from a single garden of the today rare Sayamamidori cultivar, lightly wilted in the shade of the nearby forest and subsequently processed with the utmost of care in order to preserve the whole Sayamamidori leaf.
The gently oxidized and carefully preserved spring leaves slowly unfold while brewing an exceptionally aromatic and elegant black tea produced only in very limited quantities each year.
Refreshing notes of citrus fruit are balanced by soothing hints of incense and a lingering, natural sweetness – a beautiful testimony to tea farmer Fumio Iwata’s decades-long dedication to developing an original and terroir-specific style of Japanese black tea of the highest order.
Grown by natural farming methods without any use of pesticides or fertilizers at Tsukigase Kenkō Chaen in Tsukigase, Nara.
