Ojiya Sobacha is grown and produced by Ichikara-batake, a small independent buckwheat – or, in Japanese, soba – farm and producer headed by the young Mr Yoshida.
Mr Yoshida and his team specialize in cultivating buckwheat fields on reclaimed farmland surrounding Ojiya town in Niigata prefecture with an explicit aim to grow local soba varietals as close to natural conditions as possible. All of their fields are moreover certified organic by the Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS) with no pesticides or artificial fertiliser being used at all – a rare sight still today among soba growers in Japan.
Made of pure buckwheat grains, and as such naturally free of caffeine, Sobacha makes an ideal evening companion – or simply a gentle and calming cup at any time of the day.
