Kawane Tedzumi Sencha | Pesticide-free and artificial fertiliser-free | 2026

川根手摘み煎茶

The finely rolled, dark green Yabukita leaves speak, even before brewing, of a tea made with great care.
The same is true of their deep aroma, which is at once sweet and lush like a forest.
With 10–11 days of shading before the early spring harvest in April, a pronounced umami is present from the first infusion that can feel almost ‘salty’, but never heavy.
Despite this relatively long shading period, the leaves retain a clean sense of astringency as well which, far from being a flaw, contributes to the complex and classical character of the tea; hand-picked (tedzumi) from a single Yabukita garden and cultivated without any use of pesticides or artificial fertilisers by Nobuyuki Konishi in Kawane-hon, Shizuoka.
