本山 煎茶 八十八夜

Old-school light-steamed (asamushi) and unshaded Yabukita sencha balancing a clean astringency with deeper layers warmth and natural umami. Harvested on May 2nd, 2023 – eighty-eight days after risshun, the first spring day of the year according to Japan’s traditional calendar.
Hence the name hachijūhachiya – ‘eighty-eight evenings’ – which historically marks the optimal start of the spring tea harvest. A tradition that Saitō Chaen celebrates every year with their Sencha Hachijūhachiya.
