Tetsubin Kodai Hiramaru | Chōbundō | 1.5l

鉄瓶 古代平丸

Japanese tetsubin cast iron kettle in traditional levelled and round (‘hiramaru’) form made by Mitsuaki Hasegawa, third generation master artisan of Chōbundō forge in Yamagata, Japan.
Mr Hasegawa creates a unique mold for each individual tetsubin, a highly labour-intense and nowadays increasingly rare manufacturing process. Thereby the natural richness of detail in the cast iron’s surface is emphasized, and at the same time it becomes possible to craft kettles that are surprisingly light-weight due to the thinness of their walls – both notable features of traditional Yamagata Imono (‘Yamagata iron casting’).
Each tetsubin comes with a coating of natural urushi lacquer on the inside.
Contains up to 1500ml.

Please note that tetsubin cast iron kettles are only intended for heating water, and proper handling – including thorough drying at low heat after each use – is important. You are always welcome to contact us with questions or requests for guidance regarding maintenance.
