Gokase Shuppin Kamairicha | Pesticide-free and artificial fertiliser-free | 2026

五ヶ瀬 出品釜炒り茶

Competition-grade (shuppin) kamairicha created for Japan’s annual national tea competition, 全国茶品評会 Zenkoku chahinpyōkai, by Yōichi Kōrogi in Gokase, Miyazaki.
The carefully pan-fired and neatly rolled leaves are harvested in early spring after nine days of shading, resulting in an incredibly smooth and sweet green tea.
Most striking is perhaps the rich umami, which – almost like gyokuro – forms a deep foundation of savouriness from the very first sip.
Here, the tea evokes clean oceanic associations, while gradually higher water temperatures in subsequent infusions release brighter, spring-green nuances with soft hints of 釜香 kamaka warmth.
As such, Gokase Shuppin Kamairicha offers an exceptional and rather rare expression of Japanese pan-fired green tea – and a beautiful testament to Kōrogi-san’s masterful level of craftsmanship.
