About Mitch Iburg | アイバーグ・ミッチについて

”My studio practice is influenced by the earth’s geological record – specifically, as a manifestation of its ability to remember, rewrite, and inevitably forget the history through which it was formed.”

Mitch Iburg is a young American potter based in Minnesota, USA. Here, Mitch works with local clay types, glacial debris, stone and mineral deposits, which he sustainably and respectfully collects, prepares, and ultimately shapes by himself into his ceramic body of work.

By letting the raw materials remain largely unaltered, each piece tells a unique story of a particular place and a specific geological time. In this way, Mitch’s works not only engage with ongoing ceramic traditions, but they also reflect an intrinsic materiality of nature in a most honest and creative way – making tangible an intimate connection to the earth from which each of them, and all of us, originate.
