Chikumeidō Chasen | Chū-araho | Kurotake

竹茗堂 茶筅 中荒穂 黒竹

Hand-carved chasen matcha whisk in traditional chū-araho form. With its extra wide and sturdy tines, the chū-araho form is intended specifically for the preparation of koicha, or ‘thick tea’.
Crafted from dark kurotake bamboo by Chikumeidō under the leadership of Kubo Sabun, the twenty-fourth generation of an unbroken line of bamboo master artisans in Takayama, Nara.
The dark bamboo is grown locally in Japan and slowly dried in Takayama for up to three years before use – a fully natural process that helps ensure the uncompromising quality and extensive longevity of Chikumeidō’s chasen whisks.
