竹茗堂 茶杓 大徳寺 古竹

Handmade chashaku matcha scoop in in traditional daitokuji form from Chikumeidō in Takayama, Nara.
The Daitokuji shape is named after the famous temple complex in Kyoto of the same name, and it is characterized by the sharp angle of the chashaku’s head and its asymmetrical tip.
Hand-carved from kotake, or ‘old bamboo’, which, through exposure to smoke from kitchens and fireplaces in traditional Japanese homes, has slowly developed a deep, dark patina.
